This week in Maths the children have been recording data in the form of tally charts and pictograms, on the Christmas theme.
In English the children have found out about a number of charities and have been writing labels, captions and letters.
The last week of term has been very busy. They have made a variety of Christmas crafts, eaten Christmas dinner, visited the Alban area to watch the pantomime and ended with a film and popcorn.
From all the Year 2 team, thank you for your very kind gifts and we
wish you all a very happy Christmas.
This week in English we have been using noun phrases to describe a Christmas object. In maths we have been reading and writing the time on an analogue clock. During French the children learned the names of Christmas decorations.
Well done to those children who read a reading in church and thank you to all of those who came to the carol service this afternoon.
This week in Maths we have been learning to find fractions of shapes and numbers.
In English we have been writing newspaper reports about Grace Darling, using the computers.
The children have been investigating forces in Science.
In Art we used the IPADs to recreate our version of a David Hockney painting.
This week in Maths we have been making and adding amounts using coins.
In English we have been finding out how to use commas in lists and we have planned a newspaper report about Grace Darling.
For sustainability week, the children made some great cat walk items that they enjoyed showing to the rest of the school.
Well done to Crimson class on a fantastic assembly. Everyone was particularly impressed with the children’s clear, loud, speaking voices.
This week in maths we have been learning to use a number line and arrays to divide. The children used what they had learnt to solve some division problems. In English we have been looking at using apostrophes for contractions (didn’t, couldn’t) and possession (Laura’s bag). In topic we have been thinking about the emotions of Grace Darling and her family at the beginning, middle and end of her heroic event.
The children came dressed in their sports wear and had fun participating in a variety of sporty activities. The PTA also assisted them in cleaning their scooters.
This week in English we have been writing our own version of the ‘Little Red Hen’. In Maths we have been using repeated addition and arrays to multiply.
Some children wanted us to post the safe search web link so they could research Grace Darling:
This week in English we have been using different time words to retell a traditional tale. In Maths we have been using a number line to help us order numbers. The children enjoyed going on a number hunt today finding different numbers they could round to the nearest ten or hundred.
Well done Scarlet Class for a brilliant sharing assembly.
Homework will be posted on the blog every half term showing you the day it will be discussed with the children and the task. Each task will relate to an objective covered during the week.
Friday 6th November 2015: Practise writing these words; oh, looked, Mrs, called, Mr, people, their, could, asked, putting them into a sentence when you feel confident. Remember to join some of your letter.
Friday 13th November 2015: We have started to find out about Grace Daring and children used the internet to help them complete their own research. What else can you find out? You can use the internet or non-fiction books.
Friday 20th November 2015: In Science and Technology we have started to look at pushes and pulls. Find some objects around your home and show the direction of the force.
Friday 27th November 2015: This week in English we have been looking at using commas in lists. We have been looking at how we can extend our lists using noun phrases e.g. I went to the zoo and saw a cheeky monkey, a baby elephant, three fierce lions and dad hiding from the crawling spiders. Write your own detailed lists.
Friday 4th December 2015: Next week in Maths we will be looking at time. To prepare for this practise writing the days of the week thinking about spelling and making sure it starts with a capital letter. You could extend further by writing a sentence about each day of the week.
Please bring the homework books back on Friday 11th December 2015 to be marked.
This week in maths we have been subtracting a two digit number on a number square. In English we have been looking at presenting our poems, in the shape of a train, using our neatest handwriting. We finished our learning of Christopher Columbus by putting key events on a timeline.
We had lots of fun playing with our toys today.
Have a lovely half term.
In Maths we have been finding balanced equations.
The children had lots of fun performing poems about trains in English. They used audible voices and actions to make it interesting. Using their ideas from the trip and other train poems, they wrote their own poems.
Maps to show what the children have learnt about Christopher have been finished and make a fabulous display in the shared area.
