Christmas fun

This week the children have been writing their own play scripts for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. They have included character and stage directions. All of the children really enjoyed their trip to the pantomime yesterday.

Homework will go out on Monday for the Christmas Holiday.

Two for a pound

This week the children have been learning about the features of a play script. In maths they have continued to use the grid method and trailing zero to multiply. Yesterday we had our charity fundraising sale. The children sold lots of the bird feeders and watering cans. All of the money is going towards our Hope UK project.

Describing and Multipling

In maths this week the children have really impressed us with their multiplication skills. They have been using different jottings and methods to solve them. This week in literacy we have been practising our descriptive writing for the story ‘Coming Home’ from this years Waitrose Christmas Advert. The children have described a robin and began to edit their work.

Sustainability Week

This week we have been very busy, we enjoyed learning about food miles on Monday. The children have been finding out about their charity project and have made some watering cans and bird feeders which we will be selling at some point next week.

The Catch

This week the children really enjoyed using a short film , called The Catch, to inspire their own writing in literacy. In maths they have been learning how to measure angles using protractors, recognise right angles and locate parallel and perpendicular lines.

Homework has been sent home today and will be due in on Friday 2nd December.

Money Sense

This week the children have been learning about 2D shapes in maths. They have also had a visit from NatWest bank for a money sense workshop. During the workshop the children thought about ‘Needs and Wants’ , being responsible and saving and sharing money. In literacy the children have been writing a new ending for a story.img_0511 img_0508

Can you solve it?

This week in maths we have been solving number sentences using our mental maths. We have been using jottings to show how we got to the answer. In literacy we have been revisiting subordinate clauses and using them to write a short story. We started looking at our focus picture for our art project this week and we all really enjoyed looking closely at the different characters.

Reading and Time!

This week has seen the children practise reading time in maths. They have been reading 5 minute intervals. In literacy we have looked at inference in our reading skills.

Home work will go how today and is due back into school on the first Friday (4th) after half term.

We hope you all enjoy the half term.

Yummy Gingerbread

This week the children have been learning about instructions and measuring weight. We decided to make some gingerbread men so the children could measure the ingredients and write their own instructions too. They all had lots of fun and said the gingerbread was very yummy.

Just a reminder that homework is due on Friday 21st October.

Story time

This week the children have been applying their new knowledge of subordinate clauses and paragraphs to their stories. In maths we have been gathering and presenting data. The children had a great time making minestrone soup to celebrate harvest. We used adapted this recipe,  http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/kids_minestrone_soup_40496, if you would like to make it at home.
