This week in Reception we have been exploring number quantities outside and recording our findings of different amounts of objects on grids.
Carrying on with our theme of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we have been practising using a high, medium and low voice in our music lesson to say ‘Hello Goldilocks! How are you?’ as either, Daddy, Mummy or Baby Bear. In literacy, we have been describing and drawing our favourite part of the story, using reasoning to say why it is our favourite part.
As part of Faith and Belief, we have been understanding symbols from the Buddhism religion and created our own Lotus Flowers using watercolours.
This week have learned the sounds g, o, c, and k in addition to our previous sounds and we are beginning to use these more confidently when writing words such as ‘sad’.
Oh what did her blue eyes see?…
A huge mess in the home corner! On Monday we came to school to find a huge mess in the home corner – chairs upside down, different sized bowls and spoons on the floor and porridge oats scattered everywhere. It didn’t take us long to recall the main events in the traditional tale ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ and decide it must have been her causing the mischief. In Literacy this week we have been retelling the story and matching initial sounds to items from the story such as ‘p for porridge’. In Understanding the World we have been programming BeeBots to travel across a BeeBot map from Goldilocks house to the Bears’ house. In Maths this week we have been noticing 2D shapes in the environment, we looked for 2D shapes around school and noticed lots of shapes such as square windows, rectangle radiators, triangle bunting and so much more! Shapes really are everywhere! I wonder what shapes you could find around your home? Could you draw them and bring them into school to show us?
In phonics we have learnt the sounds; s, a t, p, i, n, m, d. We are beginning to segment sounds in words and blend sounds together such as ‘t-a-p, tap’ but we have noticed we do still need lots of practise with this to become more confident!
Welcome to Reception’s blog where you can stay up to date with everything we have been up to. We have settled into Reception so well, and we are thoroughly enjoying learning our focus story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. In Literacy we have been working collaboratively to retell the story, developing our vocabulary and confidence when performing in front of our peers. In maths, we have been looking for numerals in the environment and matching numerals to the correct amount.
In Phonics we have learnt the sounds; s, a, t, p.
We are beginning to recognise these sounds in books and have been listening carefully to the sounds in words. You could try talking in “Robot Talk” at home and giving instructions such as ‘pat your h-ea-d’, ‘touch your t-u-m’ to help children tune into the sounds in words.
