Happy New Year!

The children have come back to school taller and ready to learn! We introduced our new topic for this term, which is ‘People Who Help Us’. We looked at Non-Fiction books and compared them to Fiction books. We have been working with numbers and we have been sharing our news from the holidays. We enjoyed our first French lesson. If you or you know of anyone that would be willing to come in to speak to the children regarding a job that involves a public service please let the teachers know. Please keep revisiting the work we sent home and listening to the children’s beautiful reading.

It’s Behind You…

We had a lovely time at the Pantomime watching ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We sang carols and enjoyed a yummy Christmas lunch. We have worked hard all term to earn the treat that we decided we wanted to work together to achieve. We hope you have a restful break and that the festivities are fun filled! We look forward to seeing you in 2015!

Lights, Camera, ACTION!!!

Well done to Reception for all singing beautifully and saying their words loudly during our Christmas Play ‘Whoops-A-Daisy-Angel’. We have been doing number work and have been sharing stories with our friends. We have been busy being creative just like the Elves in our story ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’.

Christmas is Fast Approaching!

We have been watching our class beanstalks grow; we have been measuring and recording the height of the beanstalk. In Maths we have been matching the quantity to the number and we have been writing number sentences. Our sounds this week have been: oi, ue, er, ar. We have been practising our Christmas Play; we are excited and ready to show the School and our families next week.

Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum…

We have been reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We sequenced the story by making our own story maps. We have been recognising, ordering and writing our numbers. The sounds this week: sh, th, qu, ou. We have been practising our Christmas Play and we can’t wait to show our families what we have been doing!

Mmmmm Gingerbread!

We have been reading ‘Hansel and Gretel’; we looked at the beginning, middle and the end of the story. In Maths we have been making patterns using a range of resources. We made Gingerbread People; we helped to measure, mix, stir and roll the dough. The sounds this week have been: oo, y, x, ch.

Who’s Been Eating My Porridge?

We have been reading ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. We have been sequencing the story and measuring the bears. We used blocks, cubes and rulers to measure, order and record the height of the bears. We made porridge and we had to decide what we wanted to put on top. We tasted the porridge and described the texture. The sounds this week have been: z, w, ng and v.

What Big Eyes You Have?!

We have been reading the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We retold the story and labelled our own character using the word bank. In Maths we matched the quantity to the number and made number lines. We have been helping to create our role-play area by making signs, price tags and shopping bags. Our sounds this week: ie, ee, or.

Trip Trap Trip Trap

We have been writing all about the Troll from the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In Maths we used positional language to explain where the characters were. We used ordinal numbers to order the goats. The sounds we have been learning this week are: ai, j and oa.

Who’s That Trip Trapping over MY Bridge?

This week we visited the library upstairs for a special treat! Carrie from Little Robins told us the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ using puppets. We enjoyed making our own masks to help us tell the story.

We have been ordering objects based on size: small, medium and big. Our sounds this week: u, l, f and b. We have been blending sounds to support reading and writing.
