The children have continued to enjoy the traditional tales that we are exploring in class. This week we described the characters from the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have also retold the story and thought about their favourite part. In Maths the children have been sorting 2D shapes using their properties. During ‘child initiated learning’ we have continued to work alongside the children on their next steps. We are impressed by all the grey mice that we have in Reception. OOOO ARGH! The children have also been working mighty hard in their PE sessions, scrubbing the decks as pirates!

This week we continued the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children did a great job of ordering and retelling the story. We had lots of good impressions of the ‘Big Bad Wolf”! The children really enjoy responding and exploring stories. In Numeracy the children have been using Numicon to help match number and quantity. The children practised their counting and number recognition. We have also been counting along the number line. After half term we will be starting an art project based on the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’. The painting is called ‘A Roman Triumph’, by Peter Paul Rubens. The children were introduced to the painting by listening to a soundscape.

The highlight for the children this week was creating our carrot and coriander soup. They were busy peeling vegetables most of Monday morning! But thoroughly enjoyed it! We hope you all had a taste!

This week we have continued to explore the story of Cinderella. The children ordered and spoke about the different settings within the story. Thank you for continuing to supporting the children’s story telling language development when hearing them read. We also made links to the story of Cinderella by talking about the different people we have met.
There has been lots of ordering in Maths… including our numbers!! We have also been looking and playing with numbers in the environment.

This week the children have enjoyed the story of Cinderella. We have also used the story to support our phonics. The children have been practising oral blending and segmenting words. They have also practised recognising and continuing rhyming strings. Maths has had a number focus. We have been counting and ordering different quantities.
Next week we will continue to read Cinderella.
In Phonics we will begin learning our sounds. Watch this space for the sounds and any tricky words we have taught!
This week we have enjoyed making new friends. We have explored all the resources in our classroom and found out how to be like Grey Mouse! Each class has thought of their own class rules to follow this year too.
Thank you for bringing in your yellow Alban City Bags for sharing. It was fun learning about your summer holidays and has been a great way to get to know each other.
