Thank you to everyone who supported our PTA Christmas Fair last Saturday. It was very well attended and we hope everyone enjoyed it. A fantastic £1,500.00 was raised for the school.
Our topic for this term is Ourselves.
The children have been busy finding out about their bodies. We were particularly impressed with the children’s self portrait art work and the dramatic scenes in our hospital and doctors surgery!
Reception classes have been settling into school life well. Out topic for the term is Stories. This week we have been learning Rosie’s Walk. Children have been learning how to sequence the story and tell the story with the help of actions. Emphasis has been on positional language: across, around, under, over and through.
We have been learning to write our names. We printed our names and used them as name cards. We have also been using our phonics to help us learn new sounds and start to blend them together to make words. So far our focus has been on s, a, t, i, p, n. We like the actions and songs to help us learn the sounds of the letters.
School finishes on Wednesday 24th July at 1.30pm. We look forward to seeing our current children back with tales from their holidays and will welcome the first of our new Reception children on Tuesday 3rd September. Enjoy the summer break.
The PTA have plans well under way for the first Summer Fair at Alban City School. The afternoon from 1pm – 3pm should be full of fun for everyone, with refreshments, stalls and lots of entertainment for the children. Please bring along your family and friends to support us in raising funds for the school.
Alban City School’s PTA are hosting The Summer Solstice Art Exhibition on Friday 21st June from 8pm – 10pm. On the evening paintings will be available to purchase, music will be performed by a Harpist and a String Quartet and there is a bar selling beers, wine and soft drinks. Invitations to the event have been sent to the parents of our new starters due to join us in September. Ticket sales are going well, if you haven’t yet purchased they are available from PTA members and from the School Office priced at £2.50.
Tonight’s Maths Workshop for parents starts at 6.30pm in the hall. We look forward to seeing you there.
Class photographs have been taken and proofs will be sent home shortly. Orders can be placed either online with delivery arranged to school free of charge or delivered to your home address for a fee, you can also return your order to school. If returning to school there will be a deadline date as the photographers collect them from us, so please read the proof card carefully.
Yesterday the children helped bury a Time Capsule on site containing memorabilia to mark the opening of Alban City School. Items such as photographs of the first intake of children and staff, samples of children’s work and our uniform were all included. The capsule is due to be opened in 25 years time in 2038.
School will be closed for an Occasional Day on Friday 3rd May. School will reopen after the Bank Holiday on Tuesday 7th May.
