Could a crocodile play basketball?

We have had a busy week this week learning about arrays in maths, and using these to help us with our adding when grouping. For example, if we put objects or circles into groups of 2s, 5s, or 10s, we can count them quicker! We first matched arrays to a number, such as ones like this for 6:

+ +

+ +

+ +

or ones like this for 15:

+ + + + +

+ + + + +

+ + + + +

We then used this to help us solve picture problems and worded problems relating to twos, fives and tens.

In literacy we have been reading ‘Could a crocodile play basketball?’ and found out some amazing facts about crocodiles! We practised using our adjectives, connectives, tricky words, question marks and punctuation, and then created our own fact file at the end of the week about crocodiles. You will see some of our fantastic fact files on display soon!

Year 1 have loved learning about The Easter Story and The Great Fire of London in our topic lessons for ‘Faith and Belief’ and ‘Place and Time’ this half term. This week we learned how the events of the Great Fire of London occurred and in what order. Next week we will learn about sources of information for events in the past. They have also created a picture using hot and cold colours in art this week. In Science, we planted cress seeds and we have been closely observing them. They haven’t grown yet but hopefully we will see some changes after the weekend!
