What a great week it’s been in year 6!
In English we have been focused on the writing technique of Point Evidence Explanation (P.E.E) to help us structure a balanced argument. Inspired by our text, Pig Heart Boy, we have been discussing the advantages and disadvantages of xenotransplantation – using organs from another species for transplantation. We will write our balanced arguments next week.
In maths this week, we have been revising our multiplication and division of 10, 100 and 1,000 and using mental maths strategies to solve problems. Next week, we will continue with place value and start to work on multi-step problems using BODMAS.
In our topic lessons, we have started to learn more about the Mayan city of Chichen Itza and in art, we enjoyed making plans for our hand sculptures inspired by the work of Anthony Gormley.
Undeniably the stand out moment of the week has to be the lamb heart dissection in science. The children thoroughly enjoyed investigating this fascinating organ and most were able to find the four main chambers, identify main arteries and valves, as well as compare the thickness of the walls on either side of the heart. There may well be some budding surgeons in the cohort. Check out the photos below.
Next week (on Tuesday) in art we will be making our sculptures using Modroc and would suggest the children bring in an old t-shirt as it could get messy!
