Exploring the Stone Age

Another great week in Amber and Vermillion!

In English, we began looking at a new unit – story writing. We are focussing on the book ‘The Stone Age Boy’. Together, we looked at retelling the story, describing the settings and also writing a character description. We used expanded noun phrases and prepositions in our work. Next week we will continue with this, looking at powerful vocabulary, inferring a character’s feeling and rewriting a scene. You can help at home by discussing the vocabulary we use at school, or helping the children to use a thesaurus to improve their vocabulary when doing their homework.

In Maths, we continued with place value, focussing this week on rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. We used a ‘witch’s hat’ to help us identify the tens or hundreds either side and find the halfway point. We also did a place value assessment to help us identify the areas that we need to improve. Next week we will be consolidating our place value knowledge, looking at number lines, rounding, and ordering.

In History, we continued making our prehistoric weapons, which are beginning to take shape! We’re looking forward to seeing the final results.

In Science, we looked at the rock cycle and creating collages to explain the cycle. You can see examples of our great work below!

As always, homework is on Google Classroom. Please ensure that reading takes place 3 times per week, homework diaries are signed and spellings are practised.

Looking forward to another successful week next week!

Enjoy your weekends.
