Five ways to wellbeing

With the week being kicked off by the 5 ways to wellbeing assembly, as a year group we have discussed and created posters to display all the ways we can look after both our physical and mental wellbeing. We talked through with the children how someone’s mental health is always changing, how mental health never is either just good or bad and the ways to then help look after it.

In English, we continued to build on our initial story based on a magician performing a trick. This week we looked at using dialogue to move a story on and use description to add to our speech. We worked in partners and independently to begin the show and start the magic trick.

During Maths, we started to recap over column method for addition and subtraction. The rules that go with them and how to present it. As we have started the S.A.F.E tests which cover the whole maths curriculum we noticed that 3D shapes was a real weakness in Year 5, so we have used soft start and starters in Maths this week to go back through faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes, as well as the names.

For Topic we looked at the cause and effect of The Great Fire of London and who it affected and why it might not have been such a bad thing after all. We had an exciting Science experiment this week looking at the different chemical changes that happen in Coke and Mentos along with some other common chemical reactions.

In Art the children have been learning how to show highlights using shading and colour, this week experimenting with different tones in paint and how they can be layered to create a highlight effect.

This week in ICT the children were able to experiment on the app they will be using to edit their Tudor based drama on, to identify what can be done on the app and how to add in their backgrounds and animations.
