Another busy week in Year 2!

In English, we started our new topic based on Newspaper reports. We started off the week by looking at an example of a Newspaper report and picked out the key features. We spent some time learning about facts and opinions and sorted facts we know about Grace Darling and our opinions on her. Next week, we will begin planning and writing our own Newspaper reports all about Grace Darling. Perhaps you could look at some newspapers over the weekend!

In Maths, we have begun looking at numbers written as words. We looked at the patterns about what changes/what stays the same when writing numbers into words. We have really been focusing on how to spell some trickier numbers up to 100.

In computing, we have been learning about data and what it can be used for. We created own tally chart based on ice creams. We then inputted this data into Excel where we then created our own bar chart. We were able to think about why bar charts are helpful to look at and even discussed most popular, least popular etc. It has also been so lovely to see children helping their peers when on the chrome books as we have learnt that sometimes it can be tricky using them.

In Science, we have continued our Animals including humans topic. This week we were thinking about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We learnt about a balanced diet and thought about the different types of foods we should be eating throughout the day. We created a balanced plate where we categorised different foods into their food type.

In Art, we have been learning about Paul Klee. We noticed that he used lots of bright colours and shapes to create his art work. The children loved being able to spot the different shapes in his art. We created our own versions of Paul Klee’s artwork using shapes, lines and oil pastels.

As a school we are looking at “5 Ways to Wellbeing” to think about how we can look after ourselves. We looked at the 5 ways and the children made actions to go with them. They also came up with some super ways to look after themselves and to feel good!
