This week in English we used adjectives, conjunctions and speech in our writing for a story based on Superworm. This followed on from our writing about worms last week, when beginning our overarching text ‘The Street Beneath My Feet’.
The sounds we practised in phonics this week were ew, oe and au. The tricky words we focused on were said, so, have and like.
We hope that you were able to find the spellings book in your child’s book bag this week and practise at home. We will have a test on this set of spellings on Monday. Please ensure the green book is returned on Monday so we can add next week’s of spellings.
We have begun to use the chromebooks for Nessy in the classroom each week. The children really enjoyed this and were keen to carry on with it at home. Please let us know if you don’t have your child’s log in.
In maths this week we have continued with our work on setting the foundations for multiplication. This week we focused on repeated addition and understanding the language for multiplication, such as ‘lots of’ or ‘groups of’ and ‘times’. We used arrays to count in 2s and 10s using repeated addition.
This week has been Art Week! The children have really enjoyed painting in the style of Piet Mondrian, exploring primary and secondary colours and making a self portrait.
We now have 2 sessions of PE each week for each class. This is on every Tuesday, and the second session will be on either a Monday or a Wednesday. This week Sky Class have their session on Monday and Tuesday, and Aqua have their sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please keep their PE kits in all week.
Next week will be History Week. We will be exploring the work of Mary Anning and we were wondering if you have any children’s books on fossils, and does anyone happen to have any fossils that they would be happy to let their child bring in to school? Also, if you have any books on significant people in History that you could lend us for the week, we would very grateful.
Enjoy the weekend! Here are some photos from the week:
