The life cycle of a butterfly

We have been watching the caterpillars grow and they are now getting very big. We are looking carefully to see when they begin to build their cocoons.

We have been singing a song in Apple class called Fuzzy Wuzzy Caterpillar. This is the link that a couple of parents have asked for.

We have been learning another song called;  There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf. The children have made puppets, and practised singing the song in groups and they all had the opportunity to perform to the rest of the class.  The children noticed that there wasn’t a verse about the egg so some of them made up an extra verse to include the whole of the lifecycle.

In Maths we have been using Cuisinaire rods to find which two rods make another  rod.  For example the white rod and the red rod are equal to the light green rod.

We have also been creating patterns using the Cuisinaire rods.

It was lovely to see that patterns were continued in other areas of the provision.

Here it has been taken into the painting area.

We have been continuing our gymnastics unit in PE. The theme was pet animals and the children were travelling over, around and along the apparatus. They were practising their rolls, balances, jumps and shapes.
