The children have completed their first week in Year 1 and are settling into the new environments and daily routine.
This week, we have been recapping over some Phase 3 sounds in phonics. The children have been focussing on the sounds: y, z, qu, sh, ch, th, ng. They say the sound, read the sound and write words with the sound in and then choose a word to write their own sentence.
In maths, the children have been looking at positional language (behind, in front, next to etc.) using it to identify the position of an object for example, ‘The ball is behind the box’. They have started to use ordinal numbers too and you may have noticed that the children self-register each morning to practise this further.
In English, we have been reading the book ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers. This book looks at our planet and all the amazing parts to it. The children sung the song ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong and as a class created a new verse and performed it. The children wrote a sentence about what they thought was wonderful about our planet and why.
Please remember to bring wellies in for your child to use in the sand, which should arrive early next week.
Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays provided your child has read the book 3 times.
Have a lovely weekend,
from the Year 1 team.
