Pirate stories, partitioning and space rockets

This week in English we began writing our story based on our pirate adventure last week. We started of by drawing a story map to plan what we wanted to happen in our stories.  When we were writing we really focused on capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and using noun phrases. At the end of the week the children paired up to edit and improve each other’s using a green pen. They were excellent stories!

In Maths this week, we have been learning how to partition a number using 10s and 1s. We also focused on how we could exchange ten 1s for 1 ten stick instead.

In phonics this week, we have been learning about the trigraph ‘ear’. We have been practising using this in words and were able to think of lots of different words that had ‘ear’ in. We also had lots of mini teachers in the class who wanted to share a word they knew.

In D&T we started to make our space rockets. We used recycled materials to make a rocket based on our previous designs. The children displayed excellent team work and were able to help each other when they needed support.
