What a busy week!

We have had another busy week in Year 5! We continue to follow the school value of consideration and have shown exemplary behaviour when moving around the school as well as showing good listening skills in assembly and the classroom. Well done Y5, you are becoming impressive role models for other year groups!

In English the children have become really invested in Bradley’s character from the story of A Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom and are developing really strong opinions of what Bradley should do next. The children have demonstrated some really good predictions for the next part of the story. We have spent a good deal of time this week exploring his character further and are in the process of writing his school report in the role of the teacher. Some of the reports are quite scathing in their assessments of Bradley’s progress and behaviour! We have been practicing using fronted adverbials, adverbs and brackets to add extra information.

In maths we have been extending our knowledge of place value to increase and decrease six figure numbers by powers of 10. We have also been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and applying them to problems.

In science we have explored the reasons why objects are made of certain materials, discussing their properties and thinking about why we use some materials above others.

Swimming was very successful this week, although with the weather, we almost didn’t need the pool! The children have been practicing their stroke technique and building up their stamina.

In RE, the children have reflected on the importance of the 10 Commandments and considered which ones they feel are most important to them. We discussed how diverse our school community is and are glad that we all have so much to offer as it makes our school an interesting and wonderful place to be.

A great week, Y5! Enjoy your weekend.
