The children have been enjoying the autumn sunshine learning in our Year 1 outdoor area. They have been building dens, obstacle courses and turning the mud kitchen into a restaurant. The sandpit is providing lots of opportunities to build and create structures and rivers. If you haven’t done so already, please bring in wellies for your children to use in the sandpit.
In English, we have been reading Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival. The children have had time to share some of their worries and how they solve them. Using their own ideas, they wrote a note to Ruby giving helpful suggestions to solve her worry. They have been focussing on using capital letters and full stops correctly in their writing.
In Maths, the children have been working on ordering numbers and objects from smallest to biggest. They have been using language such as: small, smaller, smallest, big, bigger, biggest. They have also been working on writing addition sums to 10, physically making them first using numicon, tens frames and cubes.
In Phonics, we have recapping over the Phase 3 phonemes: or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air and ure. The tricky words we have been practising reading and writing are: was, my, no, go.
Next week we will be making rain gauges so if you have any empty plastic, fizzy drink bottles please bring them in for us to use.
