Welcome to Year 1!

Hi everyone,

It’s been a sunny, hot start to the new school year. The children have coped well with the heat and enjoyed being back at school. They have spent this week getting to know their new teachers and new classmates that have joined. We have started to introduce the expectations for the coming year and using the daily timetable for lessons and breaktimes.

This week we have started Handwriting, we will be practising writing the letters l, i, j, t, u and y first.

In Maths, we have been looking at the different ways we can make 5. The children have used different resources to explore the different addition combinations you can use.

In English, we have been working on following and using instructions to complete tasks during discovery time. Each learning area will either have instructions, guides or forms that need to be completed for them to fully access the area.

Over the next couple of weeks, in Phonics, we are reviewing previous learning and using our knowledge to read decodable books.

Reading books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child reads 4 times and this has been written in their yellow books. Sky Class have PE on Monday and Aqua have PE on Friday.

A Year 1 curriculum letter will be sent out next week, this will provide you with further information about your child’s learning this term and details regarding reading books, music and P.E. lessons.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine.
