Welcome to Year 2!
It was great to see so many smiling faces at the start of our new school year and so much excitment to see friends and to be upstairs. Thank goodness for the air conditioning this week!
This week we have been focusing on settling into our new routines and reminding ourselves about our class rules and the school values (resilience, kindness, respect and responsibility).
It was so lovely to see some of your holiday photos and diaries which inspired our writing in English this week. We are focusing on writing simple sentences with capital letters and fullstops and have been practising our handwriting too.
In Maths we remembered our number bonds to 10 and partitioning numbers into tens and ones.
Hopefully you have seen our wonderful self portraits that we drew in Art. We thought hard about the position of our facial features and the results were pretty amazing!
In Geography we looked at the continents on a world map and enjoyed singing a song to help us remember them all.
Finally in Science we started our topic on plants and made some clever observations.
A few reminders:
Reading: Reading books must be brought into school every day. Please read with your child a little everyday and read the books at least three times before changing them. Please leave books that need changing in the labelled box for each class. Books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays.
P.E. days: Crimson class: Monday and Thursday and Scarlet class: Thursday and Friday
Homework: We will set homework on Google Classroom on Fridays and there will be some spellings to learn for the following Friday. This will start next week.
We are sure that everyone is very tired at the end of this first week back and hope that you all have an restful weekend in the sunshine.
We look forward to a fantastic year ahead.
