A Fabulous, Festive Week!

It’s feeling very festive in Year 3 this week! The fun started on Wednesday, when the amazing kitchen staff prepared a delicious Christmas lunch for the whole school. The celebrations continued on Thursday with an exciting trip to the Alban Arena to see Peter Pan! The children were fantastic ambassadors for Alban City School and we all enjoyed a wonderful morning of entertainment. Oh yes we did!

Our mornings have been packed full of learning. In Maths, we started learning about the perimeter of regular 2D shapes. We investigated whether you can have different rectangles with the same perimeter and we tried to find as many different rectangles as possible with a perimeter of 20, using lolly sticks!

English and R.E. learning linked together this week and we researched how Christmas celebrations are different in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The children enjoyed swapping ‘Merry Christmas,‘ for the Welsh greeting ‘Nadolig Llawen.’ We have also thought about how we spend Christmas Day and found out that Christmas Day is celebrated in many different ways by many different families.

In Science, we were very lucky to have a visit from Tania, a fabulous ACS parent and physiotherapist. Tania talked about the importance of knowing about bones and muscles for her job. She even brought in some plastic bones so the children could take a closer look. Tania explained what she does as a physiotherapist and how she helps people. It was inspiring to listen to Tania and to find out that our learning in Science in Year 3 could lead to a job working with bones and muscles, just like Tania. Huge thanks to Tania for coming in and sharing her knowledge and experience.

In DT, we have been diligently cutting our felt designs and we have started using the running stitch to join our felt together. The children have worked so carefully and really enjoy sewing. Many children have shown great resilience when things have not gone right the first time. Well done Year 3.

Somehow, we have also managed to fit in two recorder rehearsals and the children can not wait to show you their performance at Festive Recorder Concert next week.

Have a wonderful weekend.

The Year 3 team.
