Welcome back!

The Year 1 team are really proud of how well all of the children have returned and settled back into school.

Our text focus this week has been ‘The Lighthouse Keepers lunch’. We have enjoyed reading and retelling the story using actions, story maps and writing. The children all thought of questions to ask Mr Grinling before having a go through hot seating.

In Phonics we have continued to revise phases 2, 3, 4 and 5 alongside learning new harder to read words. Some of these words will be in your child’s green spelling books to continue to practise at home.

Spellings for this week are:

  1. again
  2. any
  3. please
  4. where
  5. two
  6. Wednesday

In Maths this week have have focused on deepening their understanding of length, height and mass. The children began to use rulers and scales as tool to measure and practiced measuring classroom items and accurately noting the lengths down using ‘cm’.

In PHSE this week the children have learnt the feeling ‘brave’ and we have talked about how it feels to be brave and looked at examples.

A few reminders:

  • Please could you bring your reading book and diary every day.
  • Please try to read with your child daily and write a comment into the yellow diary. We will change the books once they have been read with 4 times on a Monday and/or Thursday.
  • Please can you remember to send in the full P.E kit – if a child does not have their P.E kit they will not be allowed to join in with the lesson.
  • Please name all clothing including gloves and hats if you can.
  • TTRS has 2,5 and 10 times tables games for your child to play/practice at home.

Next week in science we are going to be doing an experiment using jam jars – if you have any spare jam jars at home please send these in.

Thank you for all of continued support as it makes a huge difference.

Enjoy your weekend!
