Marvellous Materials!

This week we have continued to explore our text, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’.  We have been practising our skills of spelling the days of the week to describe the journey of the sandwiches and the unfortunate events!

In Phonics, we have begun to work on alternative graphemes for phonemes we already know.  Some of these words will be in your child’s spellings for them to practise over the coming week at home.

Spellings for this week are:

  1. eight
  2. grey
  3. table
  4. they
  5. he
  6. she
  7. we

In Maths, we have been working on capacity and rehearsing associated vocabulary such as empty, nearly empty, almost empty and full.  We went on to reading and sequencing the days of the week, seasons and months of the year, as well as locating information in a timetable.

Our PE lessons now take place two times a week. Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit with them in school all week including hairbands to tie back long hair and tape for covering earrings.

In Science this week we have been exploring the properties of materials.  The children have been identifying  natural and man-made materials and have begun to organise materials into groups.  They especially enjoyed taking part in a Science investigation to find out which material would make the best cover for a picnic basket linked to our English text.

As part of our Feelit! programme, recognising and dealing with different emotions, we looked at how being shy might feel.

Next week, we will be creating models as part of our Geography work and would be very grateful for any small boxes, cartons or tubes you could bring in from your recycling box!

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered for our Geography walk on Tuesday – if you would like to join us please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Have a lovely weekend!
