Jam sandwiches!

This week we have continued to explore our text, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’.  We have been making jam sandwiches, eating jam sandwiches and writing instructions on how to make a jam sandwich. Perhaps they could follow the steps at home and make one for you!

In Phonics, we have begun to work on alternative graphemes for phonemes we already know.  Some of these words will be in your child’s spellings for them to practise over the coming week at home.

Spellings for this week are:

  1. go
  2. wash
  3. put
  4. music
  5. school
  6. chef
  7. friend

In Maths, we have been working on addition, we started by recapping number bonds to 10 before moving to adding numbers to 20. We used 20 frames and counters to practise our method before writing the number sentences in our books. We also have started to follow word problems and tried to find the answer independently e.g. If you have 14 squares of chocolate and 5 chocolate fingers, how many do you have in total?

Our PE lessons now take place two times a week. Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit with them in school all week including hairbands to tie back long hair and tape for covering earrings. If they do not have their kit they are not allowed to join in with the lesson.

In Geography we have been learning about human and physical Geography.  The children have been identifying  features of human and physical geography and used these skills to make dioramas of either the seaside or St. Albans city centre. We then went for a geography walk around St. Albans to look for signs of human geography such as offices, traffic lights, shops, the clock tower and the cathedral. Thank you to the parents who came with us.

As part of our Feelit! programme, recognising and dealing with different emotions, we looked at how being RELAXED might feel.

Have a lovely weekend!
