Space Facts

In Phonics we have finished learning the phase 3 sounds er, ow and ure. Going forward over the rest of this term we will be recapping all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds as well as all ‘harder to read spell words’. As in previous weeks we will also continue to work with the children to ensure they are forming all letters correctly using the ELS rhymes.

In Maths we have focused on exploring ways to represent numbers using the Hungarian number pattern (die pattern). We firstly looked at pairs of numbers that make 5, and then used double dice frames to begin to explore 6 and 7 as numbers that are composed of ‘5 and a bit’.

This week’s literacy lessons have been focused on non-fiction texts about space. We firstly looked at how non-fiction and fiction books are different. We then found out more information about all 8 of the planets within the solar system. The children have then chosen a fact they have learnt to create a non-fiction page about space.

On Friday we had our first outdoor learning lesson to the local church. We had time to explore the area and collect some interesting natural objects. In groups the children then created a piece of artwork using the natural items that they had found.  Some of the artwork we decided to create was rocket ships, bears in caves, houses, large faces, butterflies and patterns.

This week’s Feel it programme feelings focused on ‘anger’. We discussed in what situation we might have this feeling, how it would make our body feel and how we can manage and regulate this emotion.

Key Points

  • It would be amazing if you could practise letter formation and cutting skills at home to support your child’s development within school
  • Lime class will now be doing PE on a Thursday
  • As we are now doing out Friday outdoor learning we will visit the school library on a Monday instead. Please still return books on the Friday before
  • This week we wore wellies for our Friday outdoors learning at the church, please bring in a pair if your child does not have any yet at school
