Happy half term Year 1!

We are so proud of all of the Year 1 children and the progress they have made over this half term. We look forward to this continuing after half term.

In Maths this week we have focused on addition and subtraction up to 20. We have started with word problems before putting the word problem into a part whole model and then into a number sentence e.g.

Mrs Jennings had 16 cakes and she gave Miss Hanbury 9 cakes, how many did she have left? 16 – 9 = 7.

After half term we will be using 2, 5 and 10 times tables in maths as part of our new topic multiplication and division, please practice these at home using TTRS as it will be very helpful for your child if they have some confidence with these to start with. The login for TTRS is in the front of your child’s reading record.

Phonics lessons have focused on continuing to learn alternative sounds and harder to read words. Our spellings for this week are:

  1. share
  2. scare
  3. there
  4. were
  5. here
  6. all

Our topic this week has been History where we have been learning about Queen Elizabeth ll and Queen Victoria before visiting the museum to learn all about toys. Extra thanks to the parents who helped with this.

This week we learnt another feeling  DOWN in our Feel it programme. We discussed when we might feel this way and how we can manage this feeling.

A quick reminder – Sky class have their sharing assembly on the 1st March at 9am in the theatre, we hope to see you there!

Enjoy your half term and see you on the 26th February to learn all about aliens, starting with a little yellow alien called Beegu!
