Happy half term Year 1!

We are so proud of all of the Year 1 children and the progress they have made over this half term. We look forward to this continuing after half term.

In Maths this week, we have started learning the fractions finding one half and one quarter of an amount. We have started by practising halving and quartering quantities of cubes and number sticks. e.g. half of 8 cubes is 4, quarter of 8 cubes is 2. After the half-term break, we will continue to develop this further by practising finding fractions of objects and shapes.

Phonics lessons have focused on continuing to learn alternative sounds and harder to read words. Our spellings for this week are:

great
bread
field
space
they
again

Our topic this week has been Science, where we have been learning all about plants. We went on a learning walk through the school grounds looking for wild flowers before we drew and labelled the parts of a plant in our books. We ended the week by painting watercolour pictures of wildflowers.

This week we learnt how ‘confident’ feels and looks like in our Feelit! programme. We discussed when we might feel this way and how we can manage this feeling.

We had a fabulous Sports Day, the children were amazing!

Enjoy your half term and see you on the 3rd June ready for the final Summer term.

The Year 1 team.
