Year 3 - Amber and Vermillion
Welcome to Year 3.

9th October 2026
Year 3 children have had another busy week. We took part in a world record attempt for the most people reading online at the same time. We enjoyed listening to a story, illustrating a character and reading our own books!
In Science, we have been investigating soils and have been learning about the way different rocks and fossils are formed. It has been wonderful to see children collecting rocks and naming them at home as well as in school.
Children have been practising new notes on the recorder. Please remember to practise at home using the videos which have been sent out. Remember to have recorders in school every Monday for our music lesson.
Next week, we will use our afternoons to focus on RE. The following week we will focus on Art.
2nd October 2026
This week, Year 3 took part in an exciting workshop as part of Digital Innovation week. Each team had to create code in order to move a lego model they had made. They even added some interesting sound effects by programming the model using an ipad.
In the afternoons, we have been focusing on History and have learnt about the importance of Stonehenge to people in the Neolithic era.
We created models and pictures to show this historic site and even created a model using biscuit! History is tasty!
25th September 2026
We have had a great week in Year 3 with children writing instructions to tell people how to wash a wooly mammoth! We read and enjoyed the book of the same title which made us laugh and gave us some good ideas!
Year 3 were lucky enough to see a real mammoth's tooth which is believed to be between 20 and 30,000 years old. It was almost as big as a child's head!
Children have been learning about adding tens and ones to numbers in maths. In Science, all children took part in investigations to test a range of differnt rocks. Can you identify any rocks in your home or while you are out and about?
We enjoyed languages day today and it was brilliant to learn words and phrases in so many different languages. Can you learn any more words at home in your favourite language?

What a historic week it has been! Year 3 children have travelled back thousands of years to visit the Stone Age! Today, we all enjoyed Stone Age Day which started with a visit by a cave woman who taught us all about the way life started in the Palaeolithic era. Each class then took part in workshops including a bone investigation in which we studied real bones to identify animals which stone age people may have eaten. In the cave painting workshop, children created some wonderful designs on slate. In the afternoon, everyone had a chance to take part in archery as if hunting for animals like the Neolithic people. That was great fun! We hope you have a lovely weekend,

It has been wonderful to welcome children into Year 3 for our new school year! Already children have started learning about the Stone Age in History and have considered what life was like thousands of years ago.
We are all excited about Stone Age Day which will take place on Friday 18th September. We will take part in activities and workshops throughout the day.
We have also started learning about rocks and soils in Science and have enjoyed seeing some of the special rocks which children found during the holidays.
Everyone is settling in to their new class and making new friends and we look forward to the coming weeks in which we will get to know children further.
