Year 6 - Amethyst and Magenta

Welcome to Year 6.

Our Teachers are Mrs Collins and Mrs Aitbenmoussa and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Rimstad and Mrs Cheruvarthur.

This week has brought us to the end of our work on the ‘Three Little Pigs’ through the use of the Guardian’s award-winning advert.  We have written both formal and informal letters from different points of view and ended the week by organising a peaceful protest around whether the pigs or the wolf got what they deserved.  

In maths, we have been looking at negative numbers, rounding and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1,000, which we will continue with next week. 

In Science, we have carried out an in depth look at the blood vessels  and their functions as vital elements of the circulatory system.  We will continue in this vein (pun intended) when we look at the composition of blood in the coming weeks. 

The Mayan number system was the focus of this week’s topic work - a system that works on base 20 and uses a mixture of symbols to represent different amounts. The children really enjoyed the challenge and some even asked if maths could be in Mayan numerals next week!
