Alban City School competed in the finals of the inaugural St Albans Schools cricket league on Monday 10th July.  Having won 2 and lost 1 league match, they faced Cunningham Hill Junior School  in the semi-finals who were unbeaten up to this point.

Cunningham Hill were put to bat first, ACS bowled and fielded brilliantly, with wickets going to Leon, Arthur, Jemima and Lyra with Sam taking two wickets which left Cunningham Hill on a score of 19 runs. Arlo and Leon batted well producing a score of 20 runs from their two overs. With wickets falling to the bowling of CHJS, ACS were reduced to 15 runs with the final pair taking the crease. Alex R and Caspar scored at every available point. With the final two balls going for 4’s, the inning was complete with Alban City winning the match by 11 runs. Final score ACS – 30 CHJS – 19.

Following the incredibly hard fought victory, Alban City School took on Killigrew in the final, who they lost to in the league previously. Leon again won the toss and put Killigrew into bat. Due to another exceptional bowling and fielding display by the team; Killigrew were kept to a score of just 10 runs with wickets falling to Arlo, Sam, Leon, Arthur and Caspar with Lyra (playing one handed due to a sprained wrist) taking 2 wickets following great catches by Leon and Sam.  With Alban City needing 11 runs to win they took it upon themselves to play some great cricket shots, Darcey and Jessica scored well and ran brilliantly between the wicket to score 18 from their two overs. Some standout play of the inning were the 6’s scored by Leon and the consistent 4’s scored by Caspar and Alex R. Final score ACS – 68 Killigrew – 10.

Alban City’s captain ,Leon, collected the well earned trophy and celebrated with the rest of the team. Mr Clements was extremely proud of the team as they listened well (don’t loose wickets), encouraged each other and pushed themselves to some play some outstanding cricket.
