What an amazing first week we have had back! We are so proud of Year 4 who have settled into life back at school brilliantly and have been learning their new routines. We have talked a lot about our school values and written our own class expectations. We started the week with some fantastic team challenges including building the tallest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows and building the strongest bridge to span a gap between two tables. It was impressive how the children used their leadership and communication skills to work together to achieve their goal.
Year 4 have been off to a good start with their book work with some beautiful handwriting. Our new class book is called “The Ancient Egypt Sleepover”, and they have made predictions about what may happen. They have also collected vocabulary to describe the main character.
In maths we have started our unit on place value, looking at how to represent numbers beyond 1000. We have also started recapping our times tables learnt so far (2, 5, 10, 3, 4, 8) and logged on the Times tables Rock Stars for practise. We recommend that Year 4 practise frequently in order to build up the speed of their recall. TTRS is a great way to do this and there are a multitude of different games on there to play. We appreciate children learn their times tables in different ways and there are many resources to help including online games, BBC Bitesize, Times tables songs, which can be found on You Tube or good old fashioned flashcards and books.
Our new topic is the Ancient Egyptians and we have considered where they fit into the timeline of events in history we already knew about, comparing it to what was happening in Britain at the same time. After looking at some pictures of artefacts they have written questions to consider what they might be or have been used for.
It has been a great first week back.
Enjoy the weekend
