Welcome to Year 1!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Year 1!

This week we spent time settling the children in and getting them used to their new environments and changes to their daily routines. They are all copying really well and it is lovely to see so many racing to get into class in the morning and keen to get started.

In Phonics lessons, the children have been revisiting the phonemes they previously learnt in Reception, sounding, blending and writing the graphemes.

In Maths, we have been looking at different ways to make 5, using rekenreks, dice and counters.

The children have started to use our outside area where they build and construct, explore measuring and waterflow in the water area, create tasty dishes in the mud kitchen and explore maths and science challenges on the tuff trays.

Our Year 1 Curriculum letter will be sent out next Friday, providing information regarding what we will be teaching this term.

Please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school at all times. We will change their reading books on a Monday and/or a Thursday but only if they have read their school reading book four times with a comment being left, please ensure you have written in the yellow reading record the number of times your child has read then we know if the book needs changing or they need more time to finish.

If you have any questions please speak to us directly, you can pop in at soft start or catch us at the end of the day if you need a bit longer to chat, we are happy to help.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

The Year 1 team
