Is it a solid… is it a liquid… no it’s both!

The highlight of this week was investigating what happened to cornflour when water was added as part of our continuing work on states of matter. We all loved playing with the oobleck and were fascinated by the fact that by applying a lot of force the mixture behaves like a solid, but when we let our finger sink into the mixture it behaved like a liquid. We discussed the science behind it. This is a lovely activity to explore yourselves at home, if you have the time. You could also try adding some food colouring!!

In maths we have estimated where numbers might be on a numberline, using the benchmarks of half and quarters to help us. We have also practised rounding numbers to the nearest 10.

We have been working on our description this week with the  use of expanded noun phrases in order to complete our letters about a mysterious Egyptian artefact.

In art we have been using different mediums including practising our sketching skills, particularly how we can change the tone of our sketching by pressing lightly or more heavily on the paper. Some of us have also used watercolour or charcoal to explore the effects we can make.

Enjoy the weekend
