Spirals!

Hi everyone,

The children have had a wonderful week.

In English, we have been writing sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. The children have been writing about an animal of their choice, the classification group it belongs to and some of the key features of that group. To develop their understanding of the features of each group the children made  animals  using plasticine and labelled them.

Example: A tiger is a mammal. A tiger has fur and is warm blooded.

In Maths, we have practising using the language of: equal to, more than, less than [fewer], most and least. The children have used manipulatives to practise making one more and one less than a given number. The children have started to represent this as a number sentence. 5 + 1 = 6

Our art topic this week has been looking at the work of Molly Haslund who uses spirals in her artwork. The children  used chalk to create large spiral art on the playground. They then made spirals on a smaller scale, to create a colourful piece of spiral artwork on black paper using chalks. The children looked at spiral forms in nature and finished the week drawing a detailed drawing of a seashell using pencils.

In Phonics, we have learned the sounds ay (play), ou (cloud), ie (tie), ea (eat).

Please read your child’s reading book with  them 4 times and then sign the yellow reading record to confirm this. Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays but only if comments have been left.

Children may bring in items to show to the class if they are related to a topic we are studying or they have been awarded it for an achievement (no toys please).

On Mondays Aqua will be going to the library and on Tuesdays Sky class will go to the library. You keep the library book for 1 week and bring it back the following Monday or Tuesday so they can return it and collect a new one.

Have a wonderful weekend.
