This week in Year 1, we have been learning about our planet and all the wonderful things we have on Earth. We have been using the text ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers and listening to the song ‘What a wonderful world’ by Louis Armstrong. We started by writing what we thought was wonderful and why in our English books before writing our own verse of the famous song. We looked at maps of the British Isles and discussed the different countries of the United Kingdom and their surrounding seas.
In Maths this week, we have been practicing counting using number lines, bead strings, ten frames and part whole models which will lead into addition next week.
In Phonics, we have been revising the sounds ‘oy’, ‘ir’, ‘ue’ and ‘aw’.
In our topic time this week , we have been learning about the UK and trying to remember the names of the four countries and the four capital cities. We started by labelling maps before using atlases and colouring a flag from one of the four countries of the UK.
A big thank you for all the kind donations of classroom resources which are very much appreciated.
Polite reminder – please no toys in school.
Have a wonderful weekend.
