We travelled back to the Stone Age in English this week. We wrote a diary entry imagining we were the boy in Stone Age Boy. Everyone loved writing about everything they saw and experienced. As we wrote we thought about our word choices and tried really hard to make our tall letters tall and small letters small. Lots of children are starting to join their writing which is wonderful to see.
In Maths we have been working on mental strategies to add and subtract a 1 or 2 digit number from a 3 digit number breaking numbers down to make them easier to use. The children have thought very carefully and worked hard on this.
In History we researched Stone Age animals including the Woolly Mammoth, Sabre Tooth Tiger, Woolly Rhino and Dire Wolf. Did you know the teeth of a Sabre Tooth Tiger were as big and sharp as a carving knife?
In Art we continued to develop our skills using chalk and charcoal. We looked at Cave Art and drew around our hands like they did in the Stone Age.
In Science we tested to see which of our super six rocks could float or sink and used vinegar to see if any rocks reacted. But did any of them float or react?
We learnt about the first pillar of Islam in RE which is that Muslims believe in one god.
All the children are working hard on their recorder playing. They have been taught how to hold and blow into the recorder (gently) and the notes A and B. Keep practicing and remember to have your recorder in your bag ready for Monday’s lesson.
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Year 3 team.
