Dinosaur fossils!

In Maths this week we have recapped comparison of groups of objects, without being diverted by colour, shape or size. We have had a big focus on using the key language of  ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’ and ‘an equal number’ to describe how many objects there are in each set. We use ‘Fewer than’ rather than ‘less than’, as the focus is on countable things.

Our Phonics lessons this week have mainly focused on recapping the phase 2 and 3 sounds. We have practised reading and writing different words that include these sounds. We also introduced the harder to read and spell words ‘what’ and ‘when’.

In topic we have discussed the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts. We used non-fiction texts  to find out more information about dinosaurs. We then spent time thinking about how we know all this information about dinosaurs if humans were not alive then. We looked at different dinosaur bones and fossils to support the children’s understanding of how we know what dinosaurs looked like, what they ate and where they lived.

Our ‘feel it’ emotion for this week was the blue, low energy feeling ‘sad’. We spent time thinking about when we might feel this way and what our bodies might feel and look like. We then discussed what we could do if we feel like this or if we see somebody else looking sad.
