We’ve made it to the end of a very exciting week in Year 4!
Year 4’s big event of the week was the trip to the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Luton as part of our RE understanding of Sikhi. We were so impressed by how hard all of the children worked to be respectful as we sat in the prayer hall and learned about Guru Nanak and the Sikhi way of life. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone at the Gurdwara for teaching us, and letting us participate in Langar.
However, the excitement didn’t stop there, as we’ve had a late world book day this Friday! We saw some great costumes and people wearing their comfy clothes today, and both Gold and Saffron had a chance to read with the children in reception and share their books. We also read the story of the Tiger, the Brahmin and the Jackal, which involves trapping a cruel tiger who terrorises a village. We used this to consider what our own (humane!) tiger traps could look like.
In English this week, the children have continued studying what makes an effective Viking adventure story, designing a Viking hero and describing exciting locations.
Continuing our viking theme, we have all been working hard to create and label our Viking longboat drawings in history. These fearsome boats allowed the vikings to easily get down the rivers to raid Lindisfarne priory in 793AD, and we think the children have made some excellent drawings!
We have been studying lines of symmetry in maths this week, finding them in polygons but also creating our own symmetrical shapes. This week’s homework is all about looking at where symmetrical patterns can be seen in our everyday life so keep your eyes peeled!
We hope you have a lovely weekend, and look forward to seeing you all at parent’s evening next week. – Year 4 Team
