A visit to Kenya🦓

We have had a fantastic week learning all about Kenya. We have looked at where Kenya is in the world using globes and atlases. We then discussed the equator and how this goes through Kenya. Next we had a look at the country including the different landscapes and the wildlife.  We made lots of comparisons between Kenya and Antarctica.

In our Maths lessons this week we have continued with our work on ‘part whole models’. This week we explored how to find the ‘whole’ when we have been given the two ‘parts’. We counted out cubes and then added them together to find the total.

In Phonics we have revisited all the phase 5 phonics sounds that we have covered so far in Year 1. We have been identifying these within words when reading. We have then practised segmenting sounds to write words and sentences. We have had a big focus on letter formation and ensuring the children check back their work.

The children have been very creative in their discovery time this week. For example we have had some amazing wild animals created in the art and workshop area,  animals and safari jeeps made from Lego and books about Kenya. Many children also enjoyed pretending to go on a safari in the outdoors learning area!

Next week we will be learning about different religious festivals such as Sukkot, Diwali  and the Harvest Festival.
