Fe fi fo fum!

We had a great start to the week visiting St Peter’s church to introduce our RE topic of symbols.  We met Reverend Mark and spotted symbols in the church and talked about their hidden meanings.  We found candles, a cross , a dove, the organ, the bell and the lectern. The children particularly enjoyed it when Reverend Mark explained that the bell was especially important before everyone had watches to let people know church was starting. He then rang the bell as we left to go back to school.  We also linked our knowledge of materials to the church with its stone floor, carved wood and translucent stained glass. We then made our own churches and labelled them through the week.

In Maths we have been counting on and back from a given number and noticing what happens to the tens and the ones.  (e.g. 43 – 7 =   Take the 3 away first, then the 4). We also found 10 more and 10 less than a number and noticed the tens change but the ones stay the same.

In English we retold the Story of Jack and the Beanstalk ready to write next week.    We have created a story map and made up actions to help us remember each part.  Ask us to retell the story.  We are going to be writing it next week.  Fe fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an English Man.

We are really looking forward to our trip to Mountfitchet Castle.  Please remember to bring a packed lunch and a coat (and take travel sickness tablets if needed).

Have a lovely weekend.
