Wonderful things!

This week we have been using show not tell as a descriptive techniques to show a reader how someone is feeling, rather than telling the reader the emotion. We have thought about how the body reacts when different emotions are expressed, for example – ‘his heart pounded’ and ‘chills ran down the back of his spine’. This technique will help in all our writing, but specifically for our diary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, which we will be writing next week.

In maths, we have been practicing column method for addition. We have looked at different vocabulary for addition and solved different addition questions, including those with missing numbers.

In science we were using scientific equipment to compare the melting rates of ice in hot and cold water. We looked at what a fair test was – only changing one variable at a time and used this to get an accurate result.

In history, we learned about Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. We imagined what it would have been like to enter the tomb for the first time in over 3000 years and what he may have thought when he found all the ‘wonderful things’. We examined some pictures and information about the artefacts found in the tomb and learnt a little more about Tutankhamun’s life.

In Saffron, we used charcoal to draw some characters from the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. We used our imaginations to try and figure what the jabberwock may have looked like, based on the descriptions and nonsense words. We also had a go at imagining the slithy toves and tum tum tree.

Gold class have been busy perfecting the shapes of their ice reams and even creating a flake out of paper! I can’t wait for the painting to start happening!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend. We are very much looking forward to our trip next week to The British Museum.
