Welcome Back!

We hope you all had a lovely half term.

It has been a busy first week back. We have been busy exploring the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. We have enjoyed looking at the nonsense words and actually trying to make sense of them. There have been a lot of really imaginative ideas. We liked the sound that some of the words made, like ‘snicker-snack’ and the movement of ‘galumphing’ and ‘whiffling’. Next week, we are going to perform the poem to the other class.

In maths we have been practising with multiples of 6,  9 and 25. We have been looking for patterns in the numbers and tricks to help us remember them. We all enjoyed a game of bingo with multiples of 25.

We have started a new topic in science – electricity. This week we sorted and explored how different electrical appliances use mains or batteries to make them work. We also thought about whether the appliances used electricity to make them move, light up, heat up or make a sound.

Our new topic this half term has turned to geography, specifically maps. We thought about the countries we have all visited and mapped them on the class world map! Between us, we have been to every continent apart from Antarctica! It was lovely to hear about all the places people have travelled to or were born in. If anyone has anything that they would like to show or share about a country they have visited, please arrange with either Mrs Hornblow or Mrs Humbles. It would be lovely to see things from other cultures.

In art, Gold class have been busy painting their fabulous ice creams using acrylic paints. They are looking so realistic!

Saffron class have just started their ice cream journey by thinking about tone. They carefully copied a black and white image of an ice cream to match the tones using sketching pencils. We have some fabulous artists in Y4!

Enjoy the fireworks this weekend!
