What big eyes you have!

In Phonics, we have continued to revise the Phase 5 sounds and the harder to read words. We have been using our segmenting and blending skills to read and write words. We have also spent time thinking about sentence structure, including capital letters, full stops, finger spaces. We are encouraging the children to check their writing and letter formation using sound mats. Please continue to practise all the phonics sounds with your children at home.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on odd and even numbers to 20. We have explored how to make odd and even numbers on tens frames with counters. The children then identified if the number had a flat or uneven top. The children then moved onto creating numbers to 20 with towers of cubes. We then had a go at some worded problems e.g. ‘I am thinking of an EVEN number between 5 and 7. The children used their counters and numbers lines to solve the problems.

In English we read another version of Little Red Riding Hood. The children enjoyed comparing the similarities and differences between the two books. We spent some time thinking about the wolf in the story and asked the children to think of some adjective to describe him. The children wrote some fantastic sentences about the wolf using ‘and’ and ‘because’.  At the end of the week the children became authors and designed their own version of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ with a new story setting.

In RE we have been learning about Hanukkah and The Nativity Story. We compared how both of these religious festivals are celebrated. We then looked at how Hanukkah, The Nativity Story and Diwali all link through the theme of light.

Just a reminder that our Christmas Show is on the 10th December and will start at 9:15.
