Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year!

It has been lovely to see Saffron and Gold classes settle down so well to their new environments and routines and also getting to know each other. Welcome also to our new families. We hope you will find the blog useful in finding out what has been happening in Year 4 throughout the week.

We have started with our new English topic – writing a descriptive letter about an ancient Egyptian artefact. We have been learning how to use adjectives and prepositions to describe features of our artefacts and will be using these in our letter writing next week.

In maths, we have started with place value of numbers into the thousands. We have looked at the value of each digit, using place value grids and counters to help us experiment and regroup the numbers. We have also been recapping our times tables and would encourage everyone to continue this at home.

In history, we have introduced our topic of the ancient Egyptians and tried to understand where they fitted into our timeline. We have asked questions about different artefacts and done some research to find the answers.

Our science work is all about solids, liquids and gases. We observed 3 different balloons containing a solid, liquid and gas and compared their different properties.

We have enjoyed our first two PE lessons with Miss Summers and are practising our ball skills.

It’s been a great first week back.

Have a lovely weekend,

Year 4 Team
